Learning Center
Through our research and experience working with colleges and universities we’ve learned a lot about what it takes to help students, faculty and administrators have a great experience in their space. We’ve learned that teaching and learning styles are as diverse as the people you see on campus, which means spaces need to be diverse too. We’d like to share some of our ideas with you. Check out our videos and other resources, and give us a call.

As stated on Cal State Fullerton’s website: “Mihaylo Hall is also a showcase of cutting-edge technology – from teaching tools to office furnishings.” To support the vision of Mike Smith, director of the Office of Design and Construction for Cal State Fullerton., Tangram Interiors and Steelcase teamed up to retrofit an existing classroom introducing the first Learning Center in California. Features of this room include teaming tables, swivel chairs, and Polyvision technology to support multiple learning styles enhancing collaboration and interactive experiences. This cutting edge venture is so extraordinary that a Cal State Fullerton instructor has volunteered to write a paper documenting the student impact which she anticipates publishing.
Steelcase and Tangram’s Higher Education teams’ main objective is to keep our clients informed on the latest trends and product offerings so that they are exceeding student expectations thereby producing even better graduates! Steelcase also has many competitively bid contracts that allow clients to avoid a long and costly bid process. If you would like any additional information regarding the LearnLab or a tour of this Learning Center facility, please contact Christine Peter, Director of Sales in Orange County, at 949-955-6710 or cpeter@tangraminteriors.com

Something strange was happening in Ricardo Rodriguez's math class. There was an entire month to go in the semester, but the college instructor had already covered all of the material in his trigonometry course at Eastfield College in Dallas, Texas. Covered it better than ever. Not only did I finish the material a month early, but the students' grades had improved compared with other semesters," Rodriguez says.

Expanding Green Power: A New Business Model
A new milestone for the wind power industry was set in March, 2008, when Steelcase Inc., the international office furniture company, announced a long-term financial commitment to support a wind farm to be built in Panhandle, Texas. Never before had one company made a long-term commitment to purchase all the renewable energy credits (essentially the property rights to the environmental, social, and other non-power qualities of renewable electricity generation) and the associated naming and branding rights from a facility.

360 DeepDive - Sustainability Comes of Age
Environmental sustainability is important. Practically everyone agrees with that, despite varying levels of understanding about environmental issues and different levels of commitment to them. The larger issue is how to define sustainability. The word has transcended its original environmental roots and become part of everyday conversation. Sustainability has grown as a concept to include economic and social meaning. This “triple bottom line” definition redefines sustainability, makes it a more important issue for business, and also makes it easier for everyone to support it. So what is the full meaning of sustainability, and how does the built environment figure into it?

Understanding Work Process to Help People Work More Effectively
The knowledge-work process demands high levels of interaction and individual autonomy. There's more communication and collaboration on every level in the office than ever before; more emphasis on learning and less on training. There is also more individual choice in how, when and where tasks are performed and more individual responsibility for outcomes, which are the true measures of the productivity of knowledge work.

Privacy Rules
What’s changing in hospitals and why? There was a lot of hoopla about HIPAA when this new US legislation set national standards for protecting patients’ health information. Some of the changes happening in hospitals are direct outcomes. Many changes, however, are happening mainly for other reasons.

The Flat Screen: Illuminated
Expert Thinking
New flat computer panel displays feature big, flicker-free, LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens. They are streamlined and sleek. All in all: thinner, lighter, more energy-efficient, offering more viewing space, less eye fatigue and easy adjustability. Now, even at early adoption price points, production supply can't keep up with demand. What are the experts saying about this revolutionary new technology? Cut the Cord
"Digital living will include less and less dependence upon being in a specific place at a specific time," explains Nicholas Negroponte in the book "Being Digital." Cell phones, PDAs and laptop computers are everywhere. Technology adoption rates are at an all time high and a plethora of wireless equipment is now on the market. These slimmer, smarter and more mobile devices are quickly finding their way into the workplace and it is clear that buildings, planning and design, furniture and facilities management will undergo significant changes as technology continues to break down the barrier between time and place.
