Tangram Enters Mid-Market and Clients See Big Savings
Increased competitive pressures and changing market conditions prompted Tangram Interiors, one of LA area’s largest office furniture dealers, to align with MAiSPACE a value line of high quality office furniture and systems.
“We win our fair share of large projects where brand name is important, but we were missing out on the sizeable part of the mid market where value is the customer’s primary concern.” said Joe Lozowski, President of Tangram Interiors.
“In order to compete effectively today, especially in Sothern California with the onslaught of off shore imports, we needed to have an alternative solution to our major brand.”
Converting a 1,500 square foot backroom space housing the flooring and moving divisions, Tangram has created a spectacular new showroom featuring the complete MAiSPACE integrated interior solution. The stacking floor to ceiling panels were used to create three private office workstations and two semi enclosed workstations with sliding doors for added privacy. The rest of the workstations have lower height panels to enhance communication between the groups.
Bright white paint accented with dark wood and brightly colored fabric tiles creates a clean sophisticated look that’s a far cry from the traditional budget office furniture solutions. The systems high acoustical properties also help to keep the noise down. And panel heights can be raised or lowered to accommodate any changes in the privacy or communication needs of the group in the future.
Multiple tile options allow further customization of individual workstations to meet the specific needs of each occupant. Tiles are also easily removable to allow access to the lay-in cabling and power distribution systems. Modular furniture cabling can also save thousands of dollars in cabling installation costs. Plug and play connectors dramatically reduce costs of future moves, adds and changes.
“There are a lot of dubious claims regarding the benefits of moveable walls, said Lozowski, so we got an estimate from a local contractor to build out the space exactly how it was done in MAiSPACE. The end result is the cost for construction was considerably higher than the MAiSPACE. In fact the cost to furnish the entire space was only $25 per square foot, including installation and a fair dealer markup.”
Reluctant to spend a lot of money for tenant improvements, landlords gain in this approach as well. Spaces can be delivered with the minimum amount of preparation, so tenants can move in sooner and landlords can start collecting rent. Brokers benefit too, because leasing contracts are easier to negotiate and are more likely to be accepted. It’s a win-win for everyone and at the end of the day the customer has a beautiful new office space at a price they can afford and all in record time.
