Since opening in 2005, the University of California, Merced has advanced the UC system's rich heritage, improved levels of educational attainment and quality of life while conducting life-changing research.   

In 2016, UC Merced launched a three-phase, $1.3 billion campus expansion to support a rapidly growing region. This expansion was completed in 2020 and included 13 additional buildings and supporting infrastructure. Tangram was engaged through HOK to provide furniture for classrooms, labs, administration offices, student housing, dining facilities, athletic spaces and the auditorium.

Using furniture from Steelcase, Turnstone, Coalesse, WestElm, National and Arc-Com, Tangram ultimately provided 1400 Steelcase Answer Workstations and 25 variations of task and lounge chairs for offices and student lounge areas that foster focus, collaboration and community.
