21 Laps Entertainment
Rich residential-inspired space for a Los Angeles production company
Understanding what drives the need for change
When 21 Laps Entertainment, the production powerhouse behind Netflix's Stranger Things, relocated to their new Sunset Boulevard headquarters, they faced a unique design challenge. Founded by acclaimed filmmaker Shawn Levy, the company needed their 5,800-square-foot space to reflect their creative prowess while honoring their history. The team had accumulated meaningful film memorabilia and distinctive furniture pieces from their previous location that held sentimental and professional value.
The company's vision extended beyond simple functionality. They wanted a space that would make an immediate impression on visiting talent, executives, and collaborators while maintaining the comfort and warmth essential for creative work. The challenge was to create a bold, modern environment that could seamlessly integrate existing memorabilia with new furnishings across multiple zones including the entry lobby, kitchen, conference areas, open workspace, and private offices.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram partnered with Annette Tatum Designs to develop a cohesive furniture strategy that would honor 21 Laps' existing pieces while creating powerful focal points throughout the space. The design team understood that first impressions matter in the entertainment industry, so they anchored the entry lobby with a striking West Elm Belle Sectional upholstered in Royal Blue Designtex Cloud Velvet, complemented by Tom Dixon's sculptural Melt Pendant lights in gold.
The kitchen became another statement area with West Elm Novak Leather Banquettes and dramatic Staggered Chandeliers in Metallic Ombre. For the working areas, the team selected West Elm Greenpoint desking systems paired with Steelcase Series 2 chairs to support daily operations. Recognizing the importance of wellness in creative environments, they incorporated Hightower Tess Planters throughout the open workspace to provide both biophilic elements and natural privacy barriers. The material palette of rich blues, supple leathers, and light wood accents was carefully chosen to complement the existing film posters and memorabilia, creating a high-end aesthetic that maintained residential warmth.
