In July 2018, LAX and The Bob and Dolores Hope Foundation opened its doors to the brand-new, state-of-the-art USO center, established to strengthen a new generation of America’s service members by connecting them to family, home and country.

“It’s the most technologically advanced USO in existence,” said Bob Kurkjian, president of Bob Hope USO. “We doubled our size and we have dedicated family space and three private family rooms for military members traveling with their families and small children, which here at LAX is a significant number of our travelers.”

Dedicated to the legacy of Bob Hope, the center relocation also provided an opportunity to create new ways of celebrating Hope’s rich history with the organization.

“For 77 years, the USO has been the standard bearer in service to our troops and their families,” said Kurkjian. “Today, we continue that tradition with the newest Bob Hope USO Center, combining our tradition of hospitality with best-in-class technology and entertainment. In partnership with our major donors, this center will welcome an estimated 2.7 million troops over the next 20 years.”

The 7,100-square-foot center, which plays host to tens of thousands of service members and families per month, is located in the LAX Theme Building and features a snack bar, outdoor patio seating, a nap room, private family rooms, a movie room, a children’s play area, as well as space to store luggage and charge electronics. In partnership with Gensler, Tangram provided the furniture for all of these shared and private spaces, including lounge chairs, stools for the Skype nooks, cafe tables and chairs and lounge seating. Tangram met the primary goal of making the space feel like home for visitors by providing comfortable and adaptable pieces, each designed with a specific purpose in mind.
