Overview:

In partnership with SKB Architects, Tangram provided upgraded furniture and flooring for Kilroy Realty’s multi-tenant, campus style airport plaza. Kilroy Realty, a California-based real estate company, focuses on keeping fresh, up-to-date spaces for offices, retail, residential, and life science workplaces, with environmental and social performance standards for every project.

Located in Long Beach, CA, the 955k-square-foot Kilroy Airport Plaza is home to over 100 employees. Along with offices, breakrooms, and conference rooms, our team provided flooring and furniture enhancements to their open-air courtyards, residential-inspired common grounds, and valet areas.

Inspired by the city’s local beachy feel, the foundation of the space features light wood elements and organic seaside materials, such as wicker and rattan. Therefore, pops of bright colors and rich patterns serve as a natural contrast to the airy neutral surroundings. The DEDON BRIXX modular lounge with custom upholstery serves as the visual focal point. Hand-crafted flowerpots and benches from Atelier Vierkant, a Belgian family-owned business, pair well with the warm tones while bringing dimension to the lobby. The Knot Lounge Chair from McGuire has stylistic features of a satin walnut finish and caned back with leather binding. The Marset Dipping Light contributes to the pops of colored scattered about with brushed brass finishes and a blue ombre fixture. One of this space’s more distinct elements is the fully custom area rug with an earth tone shape design created specifically for Kilroy. Additionally, custom throw pillows were provided to tie in the colors featured within the lobby. All of the various pieces combine to establish a welcoming residential-inspired space that seamlessly blends soft neutral lounge with colorful geometric pops.

The café and market have a similar color scheme with distinctive furniture and accent pieces. A standout piece in this area is the Lean-To Shuffleboard handcrafted by District Mills, selected to bring fun and playfulness into the space. The playing surface of the board is constructed from pickled white oak, a matching pickled white oak frame with matte black hardware, and a chocolate leather gutter. The BuzziCane soft vintaged-inspired lounge chairs in amber and oak tables from Andreu World placed in the seating areas contribute to the neutrality and comfortability of the café and market while complementing the contemporary seaside theme. Lastly, the Bernhardt Luca modular sofa was finished in a modern plaid tone for a playful and modern spin on a dining booth.

The amenity court involves several open-air gathering spaces that feature softs neutrals and rich wood textures in pieces like the Anzea Armani sofa in Essential Sand, Andreu World Wind dining table in Teak and Blaxsand Lesung Table in a weathered white wood finish. Pops of color draw your eye to pieces like the DEDON CIRQL patio chair in a light blue and Kettal Cala high-back chair in a terracotta rust. A wide selection of various occasional tables and benches in organic shapes, such as the Jane Hamley Wells Self Bench, offer versatility amongst the various seating options. Every piece was finished in materials designed to sustain outdoor elements and high traffic.
