The Challenge

Understanding what drives the need for change

The Trade Desk, a powerhouse in the open internet advertising space, faced a unique challenge when expanding to their new Bellevue location. While they valued the brand consistency that connected their offices nationwide, they also recognized that their Pacific Northwest team needed a workspace that honored the region's distinct character and culture. The company's leadership understood that cookie-cutter office design wouldn't inspire their creative marketing professionals who were helping brands reach customers through more meaningful advertising experiences.

The 12,000 square foot downtown Bellevue space needed to strike a delicate balance: maintaining The Trade Desk's established design standards while embracing the moody, eclectic atmosphere that defines the Seattle area's creative scene. The team envisioned dark tones, casual design elements, and nature-inspired graphics that would reflect the foggy, forested landscape outside their windows. This wasn't just about creating another office—it was about crafting a space where national brand identity and regional authenticity could coexist seamlessly.

Our Approach

How we brought the vision to life

Drawing on our established partnership with The Trade Desk and years of successful collaborations, Tangram worked closely with architecture and design firm HOK to develop a furniture strategy that honored both corporate standards and local character. We implemented The Trade Desk's signature workspace systems—Steelcase Ology benching and Think chairs—throughout the open areas and private offices, ensuring employees would feel immediately at home regardless of which location they visited.

The real artistry emerged in how we layered regional personality throughout the space. In meeting rooms, we paired standard Steelcase FrameOne tables with West Elm Slope chairs in rich grey leather, while huddle spaces featured Coalesse Marien152 conference chairs in leather and plaid patterns that evoked the Pacific Northwest's cabin culture. The ancillary lounge areas became our canvas for local expression, where we curated pieces like Stephen Kenn Inheritance chairs, Blu Dot Bloke sofas, and OFS Lona lounge seating that complemented the space's ombre walls and nature graphics. Each furniture selection supported both collaboration and the contemplative work styles that drive creative advertising solutions.
