Tangram Construction Trades Teams Up with Ware Malcomb to Create Sleek and Functional Workspace for Alliant Insurance in Los Angeles
Understanding what drives the need for change
Alliant Insurance carries nearly a century of history, having served as one of America's premier distributors of diversified insurance products and services since 1925. When the organization decided to establish their new Los Angeles headquarters, they faced a unique design challenge that speaks to the heart of modern insurance work. The company needed to create a workspace that could seamlessly balance two seemingly opposing requirements: the need for confidential, private spaces where sensitive client information could be discussed safely, and the desire for an open, collaborative environment that would foster communication and maintain visual connectivity throughout the office.
The insurance industry operates on trust and discretion, making privacy paramount in workspace design. Yet Alliant also recognized that today's most successful companies thrive on transparency and collaboration. The challenge was to create a solution that wouldn't force them to choose between security and openness, but rather would deliver both in equal measure.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram ConstructionTrades partnered with design firm Ware Malcomb to develop a sophisticated solution centered on digital component construction and precision installation techniques. The team selected Falkbuilt Kai glass fronts and walls as the cornerstone of their approach, recognizing that glass could provide the transparency Alliant desired while still creating defined boundaries for sensitive work areas. Every element was carefully engineered, from the standard glazing that would maximize light transmission to the soft-close mechanisms integrated into every sliding and pivot door.
The installation process focused on creating extended transparent sight lines throughout the space while maintaining clear workspace segmentation. This meant that employees could maintain visual contact across the office, fostering the collaborative atmosphere Alliant wanted, while still having access to enclosed spaces when confidential conversations were necessary. The glass walls and sliding doors were positioned to create what appeared to be a seamlessly open environment, but one that could quickly transform into private, secure meeting spaces as business needs required.
