Understanding what drives the need for change
AwesomenessTV faced a unique opportunity to establish their global media headquarters in Santa Monica's historic Pen Factory, a former manufacturing facility that needed complete transformation. The company required space for over 500 employees across 78,000 square feet, but their needs went far beyond typical office requirements. As a media company producing digital content, they needed specialized filming stages, post-production facilities, and edit bays alongside traditional workspace areas.
The challenge was creating a cohesive environment that could seamlessly blend creative collaboration spaces with technical production requirements. The company envisioned a campus-like atmosphere that would foster the energy and creativity essential to their content creation mission, while ensuring acoustic separation between quiet production work and dynamic collaborative areas. The space needed to be flexible enough to adapt as their rapidly growing media empire evolved.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram designed a workspace transformation centered around the concept of 'Main Street' – a dynamic corridor connecting two vibrant, day-lit zones that serve as the heart of daily activity. This central spine became the organizing principle for the entire space, with the west end housing the welcoming entry lobby and a circular pantry for daily catered lunches, while the east end accommodates open meeting areas, gaming installations, and assembly spaces for company-wide screenings.
The design partnership embraced modularity through Muraflex's FINO demountable wall systems, creating flexible 'work hives' that offer employees choice in how and where they work. These purposeful spaces include everything from colorful mobile pods for private focus work to specialized production facilities with two full filming stages, green rooms, and edit bays. The modular approach ensures acoustic separation between different work modes while maintaining the open, collaborative campus atmosphere that defines AwesomenessTV's creative culture.
