Belkin
Sustainability-minded, biophilic and coastal-inspired office for a tech product company
Understanding what drives the need for change
Belkin, the technology company that has grown from a 1980s Southern California garage into a global leader in connectivity solutions, faced a workplace challenge that threatened their collaborative culture. Their previous 150,000 square foot facility sprawled across multiple stories and buildings, creating an unintentionally fragmented environment where employees worked in isolation, rarely crossing paths with colleagues from other departments. This physical separation was undermining the company's core values of connection and innovation.
Recognizing the need for transformation, Belkin embarked on a mission to consolidate their operations into a single-story, 65,000 square foot space in El Segundo. The goal was ambitious yet essential: create an environment that would break down departmental silos and foster the kind of spontaneous interactions that drive innovation. Having previously worked successfully with Tangram on their Playa Vista office, Belkin once again sought their expertise, though this time through a competitive interview process that confirmed Tangram as the standout choice for bringing their vision to life.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram partnered with architecture firm HLW and Studio Other to craft a comprehensive furniture strategy that would transform Belkin's new space into a warm, residential-inspired workplace. The team deliberately moved away from traditional corporate aesthetics, instead selecting pieces with rich textures and sunset hues that reflected Belkin's innovative spirit. From lab spaces and workshops to photo studios and social areas, every zone received carefully curated furniture sourced from over 30 manufacturers, ensuring each space had its own personality while maintaining design cohesion.
Sustainability played a crucial role in the selection process, with the team prioritizing local and natural materials that aligned with Belkin's environmental values. Strategic placement of varied planters and living greenery became a defining feature, softening the expansive space and creating natural gathering points. Standout pieces included a West Elm Belle Sectional in textured Designtex FOMO Maize that anchored the main pantry, Green Furniture Concept benching thoughtfully arranged around a living tree, and a stunning Coalesse Potrero conference table with maple finish for critical meetings.
