BMG
High-end glass and wood walls elevate this industrial-style music company
Understanding what drives the need for change
BMG, the world's fourth-largest music company and a pioneer in the streaming age, needed to consolidate its sprawling Los Angeles operations into a unified creative hub. As a company built on fairness and transparency, representing over three million songs across 21 global offices, BMG required a space that would embody their innovative approach to the music business. The challenge was immense: create a 50,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that could house their diverse operations—from recordings and publishing to film, books, and artist management—all under one roof.
The project carried additional complexity as construction took place entirely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new Mid-Wilshire facility needed to serve not just BMG's employees, but also their roster of artists and songwriters who would use the space for creation and collaboration. The design had to balance sophisticated aesthetics with industrial architectural elements, while incorporating cutting-edge technology for recording, live performance, and meeting spaces. Most critically, the space required flexible walls and acoustic solutions that could adapt to the dynamic needs of a modern music company without compromising on the premium standards expected in the entertainment industry.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram Construction Trades approached this complex project by implementing Muraflex's premium demountable wall systems throughout the facility. The strategy focused on creating flexible, acoustically optimized spaces that could adapt to BMG's diverse operational needs while maintaining the sophisticated aesthetic required for a world-class music facility. The team selected two primary systems: FINO thin-profile glass walls paired with flush wood doors and framed glass doors for meeting areas, and EXPO telescoping door systems with superior acoustics for conference rooms and private spaces.
This approach allowed for the creation of distinct zones within the open floor plan—from fully equipped songwriter and recording rooms to live performance spaces and state-of-the-art conference areas. The demountable nature of the wall systems provided BMG with future flexibility to reconfigure spaces as their business evolved, while the premium materials and finishes ensured each area met the elevated standards expected in the music industry. The acoustic properties of the EXPO system were particularly crucial for spaces where sound isolation was paramount, while the sleek FINO profiles maintained visual connectivity and an open feel throughout the collaborative areas.
