Understanding what drives the need for change
Boston Consulting Group's Denver office faced a unique challenge: how do you accommodate 65 professionals in a 25,000 square-foot space while maintaining the flexibility that defines modern consulting work? Their previous successful collaborations with Tangram had established trust, but this project demanded something different. The Denver location's irregular floor plan couldn't accommodate traditional linear workstations efficiently, and the team needed spaces that could adapt as quickly as their project teams formed and reformed.
Beyond spatial efficiency, BCG prioritized employee wellness and wanted their workspace to reflect their commitment to their people. The Denver climate added another layer of complexity—winter coat storage needed to be both functional and seamlessly integrated into the overall design aesthetic. The consulting firm sought a workspace transformation that would support their dynamic work style while creating an environment where their team could thrive year-round.
How we brought the vision to life
Working alongside Tryba Architects, Tangram developed an innovative solution centered on custom curved workstation clusters that broke away from conventional rectangular thinking. These organic, amorphous groupings could be reconfigured as needed, maximizing both efficiency and flexibility. The curved design allowed for more workstations within the existing square footage while creating natural pathways and breathing room throughout the space.
Every design decision prioritized human experience. Each workstation featured sit-to-stand functionality, supporting employee wellness throughout long work days. Powder-coated steel planters were strategically placed within aisles and above storage areas, bringing biophilic elements that soften the workspace and improve air quality. For Denver's practical needs, Tangram designed custom coat storage cabinets in rich Rift Cut Oak veneer with powder-coated steel cases, featuring hanging bars and open cubbies that blend seamlessly into the overall aesthetic. The conference areas took a different approach—industrial Caesar stone surfaces supported by bold powder-coated bases that make an unmistakable statement about the firm's confidence and capability.
