Understanding what drives the need for change
When ChowNow, the online food ordering platform connecting customers with local restaurants, expanded rapidly, they needed a headquarters that would match their vibrant brand personality. Moving into a 16,000 square foot warehouse space in the heart of Culver City's thriving tech corridor, the company faced the challenge of transforming an open-air industrial environment into a dynamic workplace that could support five distinct departments while maintaining their playful, colorful identity.
The space needed to accommodate diverse work styles across Customer Service, Engineering, Design, HR, and IT teams, each with unique functional requirements. Beyond basic workspace needs, ChowNow envisioned an environment that would spark creativity and collaboration, complete with specialized areas including a test kitchen for food innovation, multiple meeting and collaboration zones, and amenities like a mother's room and comprehensive training facilities. The challenge was creating a cohesive design language that celebrated bold colors and unconventional shapes while maintaining the professional functionality required for a growing technology company.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram partnered closely with design firm Rapt Studio to develop a furniture strategy that would bring ChowNow's brand vision to life through thoughtful curation and department-specific solutions. The foundation of the workspace centered on Steelcase Migration SE Benching systems paired with AMQ 3F Privacy Screens, configured uniquely for each team's workflow requirements. This systematic approach ensured consistency while allowing for customization based on whether teams needed heads-down focus time or frequent collaboration.
The real magic happened in the selection of ancillary furniture, where Tangram embraced ChowNow's bold aesthetic through a carefully coordinated palette of playful colors and varied materials. Every space type received attention, from informal work zones furnished with vibrant seating to the test kitchen equipped with both functional and visually striking pieces. Meeting rooms, the boardroom, and collaboration areas all featured furniture that wasn't afraid to make a statement, creating an environment where creativity could flourish alongside productivity.
