Beautiful lounge spaces to allow for more collaborative and social options
Understanding what drives the need for change
When a growing fundraising company secured their new 20,000-square-foot Los Angeles headquarters, they faced a workspace dilemma that many expanding organizations know well. Their previous office had trapped employees in a sea of large communal benches with zero privacy options—a setup that stifled both focused work and meaningful collaboration. The leadership team recognized that their people needed something fundamentally different: spaces that could adapt to various work styles while reflecting the sophisticated, forward-thinking culture they were building.
The company's vision extended beyond simply filling square footage. They wanted to create an environment where employees could choose how and where they worked best, whether that meant diving into deep focus or gathering for creative brainstorming. Most importantly, they needed the aesthetic to align with their brand identity—professional yet approachable, reflecting the trust and relationships at the heart of their fundraising work.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram partnered closely with Revel Architecture to completely reimagine how this workspace could function, moving away from the rigid bench system toward a thoughtfully curated environment of choice. The design team developed a sophisticated palette anchored by rich cobalt blues—a nod to the client's brand—balanced with warm neutrals that created visual cohesion throughout the space. Rather than forcing employees into predetermined work patterns, every furniture selection was intentional about supporting different needs and preferences.
The solution centered on creating distinct zones for different types of work. Collaborative lounge areas featured carefully selected furniture that encouraged both formal meetings and spontaneous conversations. The workcafé became a dynamic hub with varied seating options that could accommodate everything from quick coffee chats to working lunches. For focused work, height-adjustable workstations were equipped with adjustable privacy panels, giving employees control over their environment—something entirely absent from their previous setup. This approach transformed the space into a living, breathing workplace that could evolve with the team's daily rhythms.
