The Challenge

Understanding what drives the need for change

When Covenant Health envisioned Hope Tower, they weren't just planning another healthcare facility—they were creating a beacon for the entire South Plains region. The 200,000-square-foot inpatient tower represented a critical expansion that would determine whether Lubbock could maintain its position as the area's premier healthcare destination. The challenge extended far beyond traditional hospital design: this facility needed to serve multiple stakeholders simultaneously, from patients seeking healing environments to medical staff requiring efficient workspaces, from anxious families needing comfort to healthcare leaders making crucial decisions.

The complexity lay in the sheer diversity of spaces within Hope Tower. Patient rooms demanded furniture that balanced clinical functionality with residential comfort. Nurse stations required ergonomic solutions that could withstand the rigors of 24/7 healthcare operations. Family areas needed to provide solace during difficult times, while staff spaces had to offer genuine respite from demanding schedules. Each area served a different human need, yet all had to work together to create a cohesive healing environment that would elevate healthcare outcomes across the region.

Our Approach

How we brought the vision to life

Tangram approached this healthcare transformation by recognizing that furniture in a medical environment serves a dual purpose: supporting clinical excellence while nurturing the human spirit. Our design partnership with Covenant Health began with understanding the unique rhythms of each space—how nurses move through their stations during shift changes, how families gather in waiting areas during long vigils, how medical staff decompress in break rooms between critical procedures.

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution, we curated distinct furniture collections for each of the eleven space types within Hope Tower. In patient rooms, we selected seating and sleeper solutions that transformed clinical spaces into more welcoming environments. For high-traffic nurse stations, we prioritized ergonomic workstations built to healthcare-grade durability standards. Family areas received carefully chosen pieces that created islands of calm within the medical setting. The chapel and quiet rooms were furnished with pieces that encouraged reflection and peace, while conference and training spaces received furniture that facilitated learning and collaboration among healthcare teams.
