Understanding what drives the need for change
When Dallas Independent School District looked at Everette L. DeGolyer Elementary School, they saw more than aging infrastructure—they saw an opportunity to reimagine what modern education could look like. The 70,000-square-foot campus desperately needed transformation to support the district's vision for STEAM learning, collaborative teaching methods, and technology integration that would prepare students for tomorrow's challenges.
The district faced a complex puzzle: how to create flexible learning environments that could adapt to evolving educational approaches while inspiring both students and teachers. They needed spaces that would foster creativity and critical thinking, support everything from traditional classroom instruction to hands-on science experiments, and accommodate new programming in arts and esports. Most importantly, they wanted to create a model that could guide future school renovations across the entire district.
How we brought the vision to life
Our design partnership with Dallas ISD began with understanding that furniture in educational spaces isn't just functional—it's foundational to how learning happens. We approached each of the school's diverse areas as unique learning ecosystems, selecting furniture that prioritized modularity and adaptability. From administrative offices that needed to balance professionalism with approachability, to STEM labs requiring tech-compatible, ergonomic solutions for hands-on experimentation.
The Media Center became our flagship showcase, where we created a space designed to spark curiosity and exploration through thoughtful furniture placement and vibrant finishes. Every piece was chosen for its ability to move and reconfigure as teaching methods evolved, ensuring the spaces could grow with both students and educators. Our focus on durability meant these furniture solutions would withstand the energy of 350+ students while maintaining their aesthetic appeal and functionality for years to come.
