Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz
Elevated wood walls for a high-end & neutral LA law firm
Understanding what drives the need for change
When Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz decided to expand their prestigious legal practice to Los Angeles, they faced the complex task of translating four decades of New York sophistication into a West Coast environment. The boutique firm, originally founded to serve entertainment and arts communities, had evolved into a full-service practice with global reach across industries from technology to estate planning. Their new 15,000-square-foot space in one of Century City's iconic twin towers needed to maintain the refined brand identity established at their Manhattan headquarters while adapting to the unique demands of their California clientele.
The challenge extended beyond mere aesthetics. The firm required a layout that would maximize the spectacular views available from their high-rise location while maintaining the operational efficiency essential for a busy legal practice. Every design decision needed to reflect the firm's commitment to delivering the highest quality legal services, creating an environment where both attorneys and clients would feel the gravitas and professionalism that had defined the firm's reputation for over four decades.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram worked in close partnership with HLW architects and Frankfurt Kurnit attorneys to ensure the Los Angeles office would feel like a natural extension of the firm's established New York presence. The design strategy centered on replicating the refined aesthetic that had become synonymous with the firm's brand, incorporating the same neutral color palette and light wood elements that defined their Manhattan headquarters. This careful attention to brand consistency would ensure clients experienced the same level of sophistication regardless of which office they visited.
The spatial planning prioritized both function and experience, strategically positioning all private and executive offices along the building's perimeter to capture maximum natural light and sweeping city views. Common areas and administrative functions were thoughtfully centralized within the floor plan's core, creating an efficient workflow while maintaining the clean, airy atmosphere the firm desired. Premium architectural elements, including Muraflex FINO sliding wood doors for private offices and elegant wood pivot doors for breakout spaces, were carefully selected to integrate seamlessly into the high-end environment.
