Understanding what drives the need for change
When Fuse Media decided to relocate their headquarters to Glendale, California, they faced a unique design challenge that went far beyond typical office planning. As a New York-based media company built on principles of inclusion and diversity, Fuse needed their new workspace to authentically reflect their creative spirit and collaborative culture. The traditional corporate environment simply wouldn't work for a team that produces cutting-edge content spanning artist spotlights, news, lifestyle, and cultural programming.
The leadership team envisioned a space where creativity could flow freely between departments, where the physical environment would actively encourage the kind of uninhibited interaction that fuels their best work. They needed designated areas for different functions while maintaining the fluid, dynamic atmosphere that defines their brand. Most importantly, every design decision had to reinforce their commitment to bold storytelling and authentic representation.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram partnered closely with R&A Architecture + Design to translate Fuse Media's creative vision into a purposeful workspace transformation. The design strategy centered on a bold color-coding system that would define departmental zones while encouraging movement and collaboration throughout the space. Glass walls provided necessary compartmentalization without sacrificing the open, connected feeling the client desired.
The furniture strategy required a delicate balance—supporting the architectural drama without competing with the branded imagery and vibrant palette. Tangram developed a custom furniture collection that became an integral part of the space's visual storytelling. Classic wood tops were paired with brightly colored powder-coated steel legs and storage units, creating pieces that felt both substantial and playful. The boardroom showcased this approach with a striking charred black wood tabletop supported by antique brass legs, while a colored stripe running down its length connected it to the broader palette. From café tables with painted wooden legs to integrated power solutions across meeting and training areas, every piece was designed to enhance both function and the space's creative energy.
