Global Esports Brand
A modern esports facility inspired by NBA team
Understanding what drives the need for change
When a global esports organization affiliated with an NBA team needed to create their new 10,000 square-foot headquarters in Los Angeles, they faced the unique challenge of designing a facility that would serve multiple demanding functions. The space needed to house corporate offices, a state-of-the-art training facility for professional gamers competing in League of Legends, Super Smash Bros., Melee, and World of Warcraft, plus a full creative studio for content production.
The organization wanted their facility to rival traditional sports training centers while addressing the specific needs of esports athletes. This meant creating spaces that could accommodate long gaming sessions with proper ergonomics, provide technical specifications that matched tournament conditions, and offer the flexibility to control lighting and acoustics for optimal performance. Drawing inspiration from their NBA affiliate's performance center, the client envisioned a space that felt connected to nature through biophilic design elements, featuring bright whites, light oak accents, and abundant natural light, while still allowing for the darker environments that competitive gamers often prefer during practice.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram designed a multi-zone facility that treated esports athletes with the same consideration given to traditional sports professionals. The training areas featured height-adjustable AMQ desking and Steelcase Gesture chairs to ensure comfort during extended gaming sessions, while a specialized scrim room was built to exact LCS arena specifications so players could practice under tournament conditions. A dedicated review room equipped with 85-inch televisions and overhead speakers allowed coaches to analyze gameplay and communication patterns.
Beyond the performance areas, the design emphasized creating a holistic environment for wellbeing and productivity. The corporate spaces showcased West Elm Greenpoint desk systems in light oak alongside mid-century modern lounge furniture in warm, golden tones. The creative studio included professional filming sets, green screens, and editing bays to support content creation. Thoughtful amenities like the Pokemon-themed "Poke Center" wellness room with nursing station, a fully stocked kitchen, and a game lounge with retro games provided spaces for decompression. Flexible window treatments throughout the facility allowed for instant control over natural light levels, accommodating both the bright, nature-connected atmosphere the organization wanted and the darker conditions preferred during intense practice sessions.
