The Challenge

Understanding what drives the need for change

When Academy Award-winning producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer envisioned their new Beverly Hills headquarters for Imagine Entertainment, they faced a unique design dilemma. Their legendary production company, responsible for over 60 prestigious awards including 10 Academy Awards, had outgrown its previous workspace where built-in furniture and towering partitions created a restrictive environment that stifled the creative energy their industry demands.

The entertainment executives needed a workspace transformation that would honor their fast-paced, collaborative culture while maintaining the privacy essential for confidential project discussions. They wanted to move away from the rigid, institutional feel of their former office toward something that would inspire creativity and reflect the diverse personalities of their team. The challenge wasn't just about creating beautiful spaces—it was about designing an environment where Hollywood's most innovative storytellers could thrive while protecting the sensitive nature of their work.

Our Approach

How we brought the vision to life

Tangram Studio embarked on an intensive design partnership with Rios Clementi Hale Studios, beginning in August 2016 with a deep dive into understanding how each team member worked best. Rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all solution, the design team crafted a modular furniture system that prioritized both flexibility and personalization. They developed height-adjustable workstations with ingeniously concealed desk legs hidden within storage units, wrapped in curved metal panels with warm wood laminate to maintain privacy while creating an inviting aesthetic.

The most distinctive aspect of this workspace transformation was the unprecedented level of personalization offered to executives. Each leader was empowered to curate their own office environment, selecting everything from desks and chairs to rugs and lighting fixtures. This approach recognized that creative professionals work differently and need spaces that reflect their individual styles and support their unique processes. The result was a cohesive yet diverse environment where 31 private offices each told their own story while contributing to the larger narrative of Imagine Entertainment's creative culture.
