Tangram Partners with Wolcott to Transform J2 Global's Los Angeles Office into a Modern, Collaborative Workspace
Understanding what drives the need for change
When J2 Global, an Internet information and services powerhouse reaching over 230 million people monthly, prepared to relocate their Los Angeles headquarters, they faced a workspace that no longer reflected their dynamic culture. Their existing office was trapped in outdated thinking—dominated by colorful, high-walled cubicles that created barriers rather than connections, with limited meeting spaces and virtually no areas for informal collaboration. For a company at the forefront of digital innovation, the physical environment felt disconnected from their forward-thinking mission.
The leadership team recognized this move as more than just a relocation—it was an opportunity to fundamentally reimagine how their team worked together. They envisioned an open, accessible environment where ideas could flow freely, where meeting rooms would be plentiful and inviting, and where employees could choose from various spaces throughout the day to match their work needs. The challenge was transforming 38,000 square feet across two floors into a cohesive workspace that would embody their progressive values while supporting the diverse work styles of their growing team.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram partnered closely with design firm Wolcott to craft a furniture strategy that would bring J2's vision to life across their expansive two-floor headquarters. Rather than imposing a single manufacturer's aesthetic, we took a thoughtful curation approach—selecting pieces from over ten premium manufacturers including Steelcase, Coalesse, AMQ, West Elm Work, and Naughtone to create a diverse yet harmonious environment. Each selection was made with intention, balancing functionality with the sophisticated aesthetic appropriate for a company operating in high-visibility spaces.
The transformation required careful orchestration to ensure seamless integration across 19,000 square feet per floor. We focused particularly on creating abundant meeting spaces and ancillary areas that would encourage both planned collaboration and spontaneous interactions. Every piece of furniture was chosen not just for its individual merit, but for how it would contribute to the overall narrative of openness and accessibility that J2 sought to establish in their new home.
