Jefferson Lumen home/work Coworking Space
A peaceful, light-filled and warm coworking space that effortlessly flows from home to workspace
Understanding what drives the need for change
As remote work transformed from temporary necessity to permanent lifestyle, residents of the Jefferson Lumen apartment complex in Irving, Texas faced a familiar struggle. The boundaries between home and office had blurred beyond recognition, leaving many yearning for a dedicated workspace that offered professional focus without sacrificing comfort. The challenge was clear: create a 3,200-square-foot coworking environment that would serve as a true third space—neither fully home nor traditional office, but something entirely new.
The vision called for more than just desks and Wi-Fi. This space needed to breathe with natural light, flow seamlessly between different work modes, and feel genuinely welcoming to apartment residents seeking refuge from their kitchen tables and bedroom corners. The design team faced the intricate task of balancing openness with privacy, collaboration with concentration, and professional functionality with residential warmth—all while creating distinct zones that would serve the varied rhythms of modern work.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram joined forces with Studio Other and Agent Architecture to orchestrate a carefully choreographed design strategy. Rather than creating a monolithic workspace, the team mapped out five distinct functional zones, each responding to different work behaviors and preferences. At one end, an enclosed library would provide intimate meeting spaces, while phone and conversation booths at the opposite end offered privacy for calls and focused work. The central area would pulse with collaborative energy around a large communal table, anchored by a striking West Elm Belle Tufted Sectional that would serve as both visual focal point and comfortable gathering spot.
The furniture curation process became an exercise in thoughtful selection, drawing from nine premium manufacturers including Nuans, Hightower, OFS, and Steelcase to create a cohesive yet varied palette. Meanwhile, Studio Other took on the challenge of designing 24 custom pieces—14 height-adjustable workstations and 10 private offices—that would literally soften the space through radiused surfaces and tactile finishes. Perhaps most ambitiously, they created an ombre effect along the main aisle, meticulously selecting finishes for privacy panels that would create a subtle gradation as people moved through the space, adding an almost artistic quality to the functional environment.
