Understanding what drives the need for change
When JustFab Inc. outgrew their original space in 2010, they faced a challenge that many fast-growing fashion companies encounter: how do you scale your headquarters while preserving the creative energy and collaborative spirit that fueled your success? The fast fashion company needed a workspace that could honor their unique startup culture while supporting their activity-based workstyle and high-energy brand identity.
The new El Segundo headquarters needed to serve multiple purposes beyond daily operations. JustFab wanted spaces that could showcase their business model and host public relations events, allowing them to display their products with maximum impact. Most importantly, the space needed to support their fashion design teams with specialized storage and workflow solutions that would keep the creative process visible and collaborative across all departments.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram's design partnership with JustFab centered on creating radical transparency in the fashion design process. Rather than hiding the creative work behind closed doors, we developed an open environment where fashion designers could work with maximum visibility and cross-departmental communication. Custom storage units and floating platforms were designed specifically to house shoes and accessories, allowing the design process to happen in full view while maintaining organization and accessibility.
The design solution embraced JustFab's bold brand identity through unexpected elements like repurposed shipping containers painted by a legendary graffiti artist who also collaborated with JustFab's design team. These containers were transformed into café seating and bar areas, while bleacher-style stairs provided flexible seating for town hall meetings. We integrated event spaces at both the front and rear of the building, complete with large product display areas that could seamlessly transition from daily workspace to public relations showcase. A full-service kitchen and café with indoor and outdoor seating kept teams connected and eliminated the need for off-site meetings.
