Understanding what drives the need for change
When luxury fashion retailer Neiman Marcus decided to create their new Dallas corporate hub, they faced a unique challenge: how do you translate the extraordinary customer experience of their stores into a workplace that makes 'life extraordinary' for associates? The company was transitioning to a remote-first model while opening a physical space in CityPlace Tower that needed to embody their brand values of personalized luxury and belonging. Chief People Officer Eric Severson knew this couldn't be just another corporate office – it needed to feel as special for associates as their stores feel for customers.
The challenge went deeper than aesthetics. Neiman Marcus was committed to creating true equity in their workplace, where any associate, regardless of position, could access and use any space. They needed a hub that would support their diverse, hybrid workforce with spaces for deep individual work, dynamic collaboration, and the kind of spontaneous connections that build culture. The space had to work seamlessly for both in-person and remote participants, ensuring that geography never determined someone's ability to contribute or advance their career.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram Interiors approached this workspace transformation as a design partnership rooted in understanding both the Neiman Marcus brand legacy and the evolving needs of their workforce. Working alongside Gensler's architectural design, our team curated furniture solutions that would create distinct experiences throughout the three-floor hub while maintaining cohesive brand storytelling. Each space was designed with intentional purpose – from the dramatic atrium with over 300 suspended butterflies that serves as both a cultural gathering space and flexible venue for fashion shows, to five uniquely themed associate lounges celebrating iconic store locations.
The furniture curation emphasized flexibility and equity through modular systems that could adapt to different work styles and postures throughout the day. Height-adjustable workstations, ergonomic seating with proper back support, and technology-integrated collaboration spaces ensured that whether associates were working individually, meeting with teams, or connecting with remote colleagues, they had the tools to thrive. Every furniture selection supported the goal of 'personalized luxury' – not expensive for the sake of cost, but thoughtfully designed to make every person feel valued and empowered to do their best work.
