Understanding what drives the need for change
OceanX faced a unique identity challenge. As a division of Guthy Ranker, one of the world's largest direct marketing companies, they occupied just one floor of their parent company's four-floor headquarters in El Segundo. Despite being part of a larger organization, CEO George Richter and his team needed their workspace to tell their own story and reflect their distinct culture and mission.
The challenge went beyond aesthetics. OceanX provides comprehensive customer service, logistics, call center, business intelligence, billing, and fulfillment services as an integrated platform. Their technical requirements were demanding, requiring enhanced connectivity and power solutions that could support their data-intensive operations. They needed a space that would not only differentiate their brand but also function as a highly efficient workplace for their specialized services.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram partnered with Gensler to create a workspace transformation that would establish OceanX's unique identity within the larger building. The design team focused on creating a visual language that spoke directly to the OceanX brand while addressing their operational needs.
The solution centered on custom workstation design that combined industrial aesthetics with brand storytelling. Tangram specified butcher block surfaces paired with hot rolled steel panels, creating a modern yet warm atmosphere. The steel panels were lined with custom fabric in OceanX's signature colors and featured precision laser-cut logo details that served as both branding elements and design features. Understanding the technical demands of their work, each of the 140 workstations was engineered with enhanced data and power connections, plus sophisticated wire management systems hidden beneath the surfaces to maintain the clean, professional appearance while supporting their technology-heavy operations.
