Understanding what drives the need for change

When Pacific Life Insurance Company reached its remarkable 150th anniversary, the company faced a pivotal moment. As one of America's most established insurance providers serving more than half of the 100 largest U.S. companies through over 15,600 licensed agents, Pacific Life was rebranding its asset management business to PGAM. This wasn't just a name change—it was a complete transformation that required their Newport Beach headquarters to embody their core brand pillars of people, accountability, customer focus, integrity, financial strength, innovation, and community.

The existing workspace no longer reflected the sophisticated financial services identity Pacific Life wanted to project. With over 70 employees needing a space that could support diverse work styles while maintaining the clean, refined aesthetic expected in Newport Beach's premium business district, the company needed more than just new furniture—they needed a complete workspace transformation that would honor their legacy while propelling them into their next chapter.

Tangram partnered with H.Hendy Associates to create a comprehensive design solution that would translate Pacific Life's brand pillars into a tangible workplace experience. The team recognized that this wasn't simply about selecting furniture, but about creating an environment where Pacific Life's values could come to life through purposeful design. By carefully curating pieces from premium manufacturers including Steelcase, AMQ, Coalesse, Stylex, and ECI, Tangram ensured every element would support both individual productivity and collaborative innovation.

The design approach centered on creating diverse seating arrangements and workspace configurations that could adapt to Pacific Life's varied business needs. From intimate client meetings to large team collaborations, every space was thoughtfully planned to maintain visual cohesion while offering the flexibility that modern financial services demand. The team prioritized ergonomic solutions and sophisticated finishes that would reflect Pacific Life's established reputation while supporting their team's daily success.
