Understanding what drives the need for change
Steelcase faced an ambitious vision: creating one of only four WorkLife Centers outside their Grand Rapids headquarters that would serve as a living laboratory for the future of work. The Dallas location needed to be more than just another showroom—it had to be a functioning workspace that would demonstrate how human-centered design, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology could transform the modern work experience. The space needed to support the full spectrum of work styles, from focused individual tasks to dynamic team collaboration, all while accommodating the hybrid work reality that has reshaped business operations.
The challenge extended beyond creating beautiful spaces. Steelcase wanted to showcase three distinct work neighborhoods that would feel intuitive and productive for both in-person employees and remote participants. Every technology integration needed to be seamless, supporting spontaneous collaboration while meeting rigorous wellness and sustainability standards. This wasn't just about installing equipment—it was about creating an environment that would influence how companies across the region think about workplace design and employee wellbeing.
How we brought the vision to life
Our design partnership with Steelcase centered on understanding how technology could enhance rather than complicate the work experience. We worked closely with their team to integrate Microsoft and Logitech-powered collaboration systems throughout each of the three work neighborhoods, ensuring that every interaction felt natural and intuitive. Rather than creating technology-heavy spaces, we focused on making the advanced systems invisible, allowing users to connect and collaborate without technical barriers.
Our approach involved careful coordination across social hubs, learning areas, and private workstations to create a unified experience. We implemented comprehensive AV solutions that would support everything from impromptu conversations in lounge areas to formal presentations in collaboration rooms. Each neighborhood received tailored technology solutions that aligned with Steelcase's research-backed design principles, ensuring that the space would function as both a productive workplace and a demonstration of what's possible when purposeful design meets seamless technology integration.
