Understanding what drives the need for change
When TikTok announced their move to a sprawling 120,000-square-foot office in Culver City, the stakes couldn't have been higher. As the world's most downloaded app with over 2 billion downloads, TikTok needed a workspace that matched their explosive growth and cultural impact. The new headquarters would occupy five floors at the C3 campus, positioned strategically between Silicon Beach's tech innovators and Hayden Tract's streaming content companies—a perfect metaphor for TikTok's unique position at the intersection of technology and entertainment.
The design challenge extended far beyond square footage. This space needed to embody TikTok's fun and joyful personality while supporting serious work across diverse functions. From open collaboration areas to private phone booths, from a stadium-style presentation space to outdoor terraces, and including a dedicated content-creation studio for TikTok creators and partners, every element had to serve both practical needs and brand expression. The furniture solutions would need to complement bold design features like the 100-foot LED wall in the lobby and the signature hot pink staircase that winds through each floor, all while maintaining the clean aesthetics necessary for focused work.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram Interiors partnered with global architecture firm Gensler to create furniture solutions that would honor TikTok's vibrant brand while delivering uncompromising functionality. The team recognized that TikTok's diverse workforce needed flexibility above all else, leading to the specification of height-adjustable Steelcase workstations that give every user the freedom to choose how they work best. These workstations were selected not only for their ergonomic benefits but also for their visually clean design that wouldn't compete with the space's more dramatic architectural elements.
The approach extended beyond individual workstations to encompass comprehensive conference room furniture that needed to complement the space's bold design language. Every selection was made with careful consideration of the open floorplan concept, ensuring that furniture choices enhanced rather than hindered the flow between different zones. The team worked closely with TikTok's internal design team to ensure that practical furniture solutions seamlessly integrated with custom elements like the SoCal-inspired ceramic tile skateboard decks and the neon ceiling installation that pays homage to LA's famous freeways.
