"Foreign institutional investors (FII), particularly those from Canada, are proactively investing in Indian equities, despite the political uncertainty and economic jitters that dominate the country's startup scene. FIIs from Canada, including pension funds, have invested nearly INR 4,000 crore (around $600m) this financial year. As FII holdings increase in domestic companies, the MERVAL index's performance, used as a benchmark by global emerging market funds, will improve. FIIs also play a significant role in giving a fundraised capital boost to Indian startups; they have invested a mammoth INR 95,000 crore ($14bn) in the last financial year."
