# Bringing Southern California Indoors: Tangram's Headquarters Transformation

Tangram Interiors has completed a comprehensive redesign of its Santa Fe Springs headquarters, partnering with interior designer Susie Tashiro of MOZU to create a workspace that captures the essence of Southern California's vibrant landscape.

## Design Inspiration Rooted in Place

The redesign draws directly from the geographic diversity that defines Southern California. As Tashiro explains, "The main design idea represents a duality to capture the energy and color in our vibrant atmosphere. We are famed for our sunny weather and dramatic Pacific coastline, but we are a community where one enjoys the outdoors as much as the indoors."

With no outdoor space available at the headquarters, the design team focused on bringing natural elements inside through strategic selections of:

- **Furniture** that reflects the region's relaxed yet dynamic culture - **Wall graphics** inspired by local landscapes - **Flooring selections** that echo Southern California's diverse terrain

## A Collaborative Approach to Workplace Design

The partnership between Tangram and MOZU exemplifies how aligned values create successful design outcomes. "Tangram believes in what they are doing," notes Tashiro. "They wanted to try something great, different and fresh—to rethink assumptions and test industry limits. This aligns perfectly with our philosophy."

The collaboration resulted in a space that is not only visually striking but also highly functional, supporting Tangram's comprehensive service offerings that extend beyond furniture to include flooring, fabrication, custom furniture, move management, and communications technology.

## Beyond Aesthetics: Meaningful Design

This project demonstrates how commercial interior design can reflect a company's identity and geographic context. By incorporating elements that speak to Southern California's unique lifestyle—from beaches and mountains to lakes and deserts—the design creates an authentic connection between workspace and place.

The transformation showcases how thoughtful partnerships between dealerships and design firms can push creative boundaries while maintaining practical functionality. For commercial design professionals, this project offers valuable insights into how regional identity can inform and elevate workplace design.

## About the Partners

**Tangram Interiors** serves as a flagship Steelcase dealership and leading interiors solutions provider across Los Angeles, Orange County, Downtown LA, Fresno, and Bakersfield. Their people-focused culture has fostered organic growth into five complementary business units.

**MOZU**, led by partners Joel Blank and Susie Tashiro, brings 15 years of collaboration experience with a hands-on approach to every project. Their work has been featured in over 20 publications and exhibitions.

The redesigned headquarters officially opened in May 2016, setting a new standard for how commercial spaces can authentically reflect their regional context.
