The Challenge

Understanding what drives the need for change

For nearly five decades, Webcor had built their reputation constructing remarkable buildings for tech giants like Google, Apple, and Samsung across California. But when it came time to design their own new Downtown Los Angeles headquarters, they faced a fundamental shift in how they wanted to work. Their previous office was dominated by private offices—a traditional layout that no longer matched their vision for collaboration and flexibility.

The construction company needed their 14,500 square foot space to reflect both their professional expertise and their evolving workplace culture. They wanted cost-effective solutions that didn't compromise on style, with every workstation offering height-adjustable capability to support employee wellness. Most importantly, they were ready to experiment with non-traditional meeting spaces that would spark creativity and innovation—moving beyond the standard conference room model that had defined their previous workspace.

Our Approach

How we brought the vision to life

Tangram approached this workspace transformation by creating a unified design language that balanced Webcor's need for professionalism with their desire for flexibility. The solution centered on height-adjustable workstations throughout the space—AMQ Activ systems for private offices and Steelcase Migration for open areas—all tied together with warm natural wood finishes and clean white bases that reflected the company's construction expertise.

The real innovation came in reimagining how meetings could happen. Rather than filling every room with traditional conference tables, Tangram introduced Steelcase Campfire Lounge configurations paired with flexible seating options, standing-height tables, and mobile laptop surfaces. Strategic pops of color appeared in the break room through carefully selected West Elm and SitOnIt seating in Saddle Leather and Jungle Green, creating energy without overwhelming the space. This thoughtful approach gave Webcor multiple ways to gather, collaborate, and think creatively about their work.
