Understanding what drives the need for change
When ArentFox Schiff decided to relocate to downtown Los Angeles, they weren't just changing addresses—they were reimagining what a modern law firm could be. The legal industry's traditional approach to office design no longer aligned with their forward-thinking culture and the evolving needs of their attorneys and clients. They envisioned a space that would break free from the stuffy, intimidating atmosphere of conventional law offices and instead create an environment that felt both professional and welcoming.
The challenge was particularly complex because ArentFox Schiff needed their new 27,000-square-foot office to serve multiple functions seamlessly. Beyond supporting daily legal work, the space had to accommodate hybrid collaboration between in-person and remote team members, facilitate high-stakes client meetings, and even support content production for podcasts, webinars, and virtual court sessions. Most importantly, they wanted furniture solutions that could integrate advanced technology without sacrificing the organic, human-centered design aesthetic they were pursuing.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram Interiors approached this workspace transformation as true design partners, working hand-in-hand with Donaldson + Partners to ensure every furniture selection supported both the architectural vision and the firm's operational needs. Rather than simply specifying standard pieces, the team focused on creating bespoke solutions that would reflect ArentFox Schiff's innovative spirit while maintaining the sophistication expected in legal environments.
The centerpiece of this collaboration became the custom boardroom, where Tangram specified a stunning Halcon table with integrated screens built directly into its base—a feat of both engineering and design that allows technology to enhance rather than dominate the space. The organic curved green panels flanking this focal point add warmth and visual interest while maintaining acoustic performance. Throughout the office, carefully selected pieces from Steelcase, Humanscale, and Byrne were chosen not just for their premium quality, but for their ability to adapt to the hybrid work patterns that define modern legal practice. Every workstation, meeting room, and collaborative area was designed to support seamless transitions between in-person and virtual interactions.
