The Challenge

Understanding what drives the need for change

Edwards Lifesciences faced a pivotal moment in their corporate evolution. As a leading medical device manufacturer dedicated to advancing heart health worldwide, they needed their Irvine headquarters to reflect their innovative spirit and accommodate their growing workforce. The existing 25,000 square feet was a patchwork of disconnected spaces—a corporate café here, executive offices there, scattered workstations throughout—that failed to capture the company's collaborative culture or provide the flexibility needed for everything from intimate team meetings to company-wide product launches.

The vision was ambitious: transform this fragmented space into a next-generation corporate environment that could seamlessly transition from quiet individual work to hosting several thousand employees for major events. Beyond functionality, Edwards Lifesciences wanted a space that would serve as both a secure campus gateway connecting two buildings and a showcase of their corporate heritage—a place where their life-saving mission could be felt in every corner.

Our Approach

How we brought the vision to life

Tangram approached this workspace transformation by reimagining how a corporate environment could truly serve its people. The design team recognized that Edwards Lifesciences needed more than just furniture and layout changes—they needed a space that could adapt to their dynamic needs while maintaining the sophisticated, trust-inspiring atmosphere befitting a medical device leader.

The design partnership centered on maximizing the space's greatest asset: abundant natural daylight streaming throughout the 25,000 square feet. Tangram carefully curated contemporary furniture from Coalesse, Dellarobbia, and Davis in a refined gray and white palette that feels both calming and energizing. The team created flexible zones that flow seamlessly between individual focus areas and collaborative spaces, anchored by meaningful touches like corporate heritage displays and a full-service coffee bar. A striking natural-wood staircase became a focal point, enhanced with vibrant custom cushions that inject warmth and personality into the sophisticated environment.
