Understanding what drives the need for change
Edwards Lifesciences, a global leader in heart disease innovations and critical care monitoring, approached their trusted partner Tangram with an ambitious vision for their new LINC Café. The medical device company wanted to transform 18,000 square feet of space in Irvine, California into something far beyond a typical corporate amenity area. Their goal was to create a sophisticated event destination that could seamlessly host both employees and high-profile clients.
The challenge lay in balancing multiple competing needs within a single space. Edwards envisioned an environment that felt like a high-end bar lounge at a boutique hotel, complete with indoor and outdoor bars, a live band studio setup, multiple conference rooms, outdoor lounging areas, and intimate indoor conversation nooks. The space needed to deliver the comfort and elegance of top-tier hospitality while maintaining the professionalism expected in a corporate setting. Working alongside design firm OFFICEUNTITLED, Tangram needed to curate furniture that would create this elevated experience across diverse functional zones.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram's strategy centered on creating a cohesive luxury experience through carefully selected furniture from premium manufacturers including Blu Dot, Bolia, Industry West, DPG, and Custom Upholstery Elements. The design team understood that achieving a boutique hotel atmosphere required attention to both visual impact and tactile comfort. They anchored the space with custom-modulated West Elm Belle sofas upholstered in lush velvet, strategically curved to flow within the surrounding decorative shelving and rendered in rich, cool-toned shades that added sophistication without overwhelming the environment.
The furniture curation extended this luxury standard throughout every zone of the space. Comfortable lounge seating appeared in both indoor and outdoor areas, featuring premium materials like velvet, mohair, and leather that invited guests to linger and connect. Each piece was selected not just for its individual beauty, but for how it contributed to the overall narrative of refined hospitality. The team's deep understanding of Edwards' vision enabled them to balance the diverse functional requirements while maintaining a consistent level of elegance across conference rooms, bar areas, and casual lounging spaces.
