Tangram Newport Beach Showroom
Hospitality-driven renovation inspired by local coastal flora and fauna
Understanding what drives the need for change
When Tangram decided to renovate their Newport Beach showroom in early 2022, they faced the complex task of creating a space that would truly reflect both their design philosophy and the unique character of their coastal California location. The existing 12,000-square-foot space needed to evolve beyond a traditional showroom into something more dynamic and engaging—a place that would immediately captivate visitors stepping off the elevator while also serving the practical needs of their team and clients.
The challenge extended beyond aesthetics. Tangram wanted each area to serve a specific purpose while maintaining visual cohesion throughout the space. They needed to balance the wow factor of a premium showroom with the functional requirements of a modern workplace, incorporating flexible spaces that could adapt to the hybrid nature of today's work environment. The design had to honor the natural beauty of Newport Beach while showcasing Tangram's expertise in creating sophisticated, hospitality-inspired interiors.
How we brought the vision to life
Tangram Designer Samantha East partnered with MOZU Architect's Susie Tashiro to develop a comprehensive redesign strategy rooted in the local coastal environment. Rather than imposing an arbitrary design theme, they drew inspiration directly from Newport Beach's native flora and fauna, using this natural palette as the foundation for their material and color selections. The team carefully layered rich jewel tones with sophisticated neutrals, incorporating lush fabrics and luxurious textures that would create both visual impact and tactile interest.
The spatial planning focused on creating distinct zones with clear purposes while maintaining flow throughout the showroom. The lobby became the dramatic first impression—the space's wow factor designed to immediately communicate Tangram's design sophistication. At the heart of the renovation, they positioned a flexible work café that would serve multiple functions: a place for staff and visitors to eat, work, and socialize. This central hub embodies the hybrid workplace concept, demonstrating how commercial spaces can adapt to changing work patterns while maintaining the elevated aesthetic standards expected in a high-end showroom.
