The Trade Desk - New York
Moody and earthy space surrounded by breathtaking NYC views
Understanding what drives the need for change
When The Trade Desk's New York operations outgrew their cramped startup office, the company faced a defining moment. With over 500 employees scattered across insufficient space, they needed a flagship location that could unify their East Coast presence while reflecting their status as a major player in the advertising technology industry. The stakes were high: this wouldn't just be another office move, but the creation of their premier East Coast headquarters at 1114 6th Avenue.
The 96,000 square foot space across five floors offered spectacular Manhattan views, but transforming it into a cohesive workplace that could accommodate rapid growth while fostering collaboration presented unique challenges. The Trade Desk needed furniture solutions that would match the breathtaking nature of their new home while supporting diverse work styles, from focused individual work to dynamic team collaboration. Every decision would need to balance openness with privacy, flexibility with structure, and stunning aesthetics with practical functionality.
How we brought the vision to life
Drawing on our established design partnership with The Trade Desk, Tangram collaborated closely with renowned architecture firm SOM to create a workspace transformation that honored both the building's architectural magnificence and the company's dynamic culture. Our design philosophy centered on creating purposeful spaces that would naturally bring people together, whether for formal presentations or spontaneous brainstorming sessions.
We curated a comprehensive mid-century modern furniture collection that complemented the building's soaring views while maintaining a sophisticated, neutral palette. Steelcase Ology height-adjustable desks were configured in thoughtful clusters of 8-10 workstations around the perimeter, maximizing natural light exposure. Demountable Muraflex walls created flexible private offices and meeting spaces that could evolve with the company's needs, while specialized zones like 'The Social Hub' cafe featured carefully selected Coalesse seating in energizing greens. Every element, from the welcoming Bolia lounge chairs in the lobby to the technology-equipped huddle rooms, was chosen to reinforce The Trade Desk's collaborative culture while providing the flexibility essential for a rapidly growing organization.
