The Challenge

Understanding what drives the need for change

DLR Group’s Dallas studio relocation marked a pivotal shift in how their workplace would support a growing, multidisciplinary team and evolving hybrid work model. Downsizing into a 13,500-square-foot space, the firm sought to rethink traditional office design—eliminating private offices in favor of a fully open, collaborative environment that encourages visibility, connection, and creativity.

The challenge was both cultural and functional. The new space needed to reflect DLR Group’s identity as a forward-thinking design firm while supporting employees with flexible, high-performance work settings. It also had to embody their research-driven approach to workplace strategy—balancing individual focus, team collaboration, and social interaction.

Additionally, the environment needed to feel vibrant and intentional, with a strong emphasis on color, intuitive layouts, and spaces that “make sense” the moment someone sits down to work. Integrating walls and furniture into a cohesive solution—while aligning with their in-house design vision—was critical to delivering a seamless and inspiring workplace.

Our Approach

How we brought the vision to life

Tangram partnered with DLR Group’s Dallas team to deliver both furniture and architectural wall solutions for this new build-out, ensuring every element worked together to support a modern, hybrid workplace.

Our approach centered on enabling flexibility, visibility, and collaboration across the entire office. We implemented Steelcase wall systems to define space without compromising openness, creating fluid transitions between meeting areas, focus zones, and shared environments. The removal of private offices allowed us to prioritize an open plan with clear sightlines, reinforcing connectivity across teams.

We furnished the workspace with Steelcase Ology desking to support nomadic workstyles, paired with SitOnIt seating for ergonomic comfort. Potrero tables anchored collaborative zones, while the open kitchen became a central hub for connection and informal meetings. Meeting spaces were intentionally designed without doors—creating welcoming, accessible environments that encourage spontaneous interaction and idea sharing.

Throughout the space, we focused on creating “smart” environments—where layout, furniture, and flow intuitively support how people work. The result is a cohesive, design-forward workplace that reflects DLR Group’s culture of innovation and adaptability.
